The Two Sides of Disney

Most of us have realized by now that there are two sides to the Disney name - the actually good content it produces as well as the horrible business practices (for the love of all that is holy, they'd better keep Marvel and Star Wars out of Kingdom Hearts). I'm here today to talk about both, starting on one side with my top 6 favorite Disney songs of all time:
6) "O'Malley the Alley Cat" from The Aristocats. I don't care what Doug thinks of this movie. I still kind of like it, and for some reason this song gets stuck in my head. It's just a simple little song about the life of a stray cat and all the names humans have given him.
5) "Rescue Aid Society" from The Rescuers. It's like any do-gooder oath except put to music. The fact that it's a whole organization of mice doesn't make that much of a difference - at one point they almost give up and the oath and sense of morals is what keeps them going.
4) "Arabian Nights" from Aladdin. The intro, whichever version you heard, is probably one of the best Disney intros with words set to animation (I'll admit "Circle of Life" from The Lion King, while iconic, gets on my nerves after a while). It fit the atmosphere and didn't presume too much, being sung by the narrator (played by Robin Williams). I'll admit too that I liked Aladdin the series and this song was kept as the theme.
3) "Beauty and the Beast" from Beauty and the Beast. I like Angela Lansbury and this song especially. It's a nice quiet mood change compared to everything else that had happened prior and what would happen after. Like "Not While I'm Around" from Sweeney Todd, she just has this calming voice that makes you feel like everything's going to be okay in the end.
2) "Beautiful Briny Sea" from Bedknobs and Broomsticks. Another song with Angela Lansbury as one of the singers. One of the more whimsical Disney songs just shy of my number one slot, it nonetheless provides a distraction for the characters or at least another stop on their adventures.
1) "Step in Time" from Mary Poppins. It's my favorite song of my favorite Disney movie ever. When I was a kid, I loved the part where they were making their way across rooftops and then all of Bert's chimneysweep friends were dancing.
So, that's the good. Now for the bad. It's already been said that the Shrek franchise was Dreamworks' middle finger to Disney, but there are many other reasons for people to dislike the Disney corporation. For example, the Nickelodeon show iCarly has taken shots at Disney on more than one occasion, referring to it as Dingo. In one episode they go on a crusade to stop the studio from stealing their ideas, using the frozen head as a hostage. In another, they torture Spencer with "Radio Dingo," the worst music ever played, in the name of science. These pot-shots probably happened because the two networks have been known to fight over which one of them gets a certain celebrity guest star first. Also, Dan Schneider may feel like Disney "borrowed" some of his ideas, such as "So Random!" being a rip-off of "All That," the kid version of SNL. Speaking of borrowing, I think (and it has been pointed out) that Anne Marie from All Dogs Go To Heaven looks a little like Snow White. Don Bluth used to work for Disney too. And speaking of working for Disney, check out this guy:
