There are three series in particular that I tried to get into, wanted to like, but just couldn't for various reasons. Those series are Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles, Spice and Wolf, and Princess Tutu.
First off, I was told Tsubasa was like a sequel to Cardcaptor Sakura, but I have watched the first twenty-six episodes and I don't think I will be watching any more. Even the fans are confused by the plot lines and implications, and the clone thing makes it even worse. I'll admit some episodes were enjoyable, the voice actors did a great job, and I liked the overall basic concept, but it just frustrates me (and yet somehow I like Kingdom Hearts just fine). Aside from just the confusing stuff, there are certain things that in my opinion just shouldn't have happened or just shouldn't be. It pains me to even talk about it, so let's just move on to the next one.
Spice and Wolf seemed like a simple enough concept - ferry a wolf goddess in her human form back to her home in the north, hijinx ensue. I'll admit to a basic understanding of economics, and while I recognize its importance to the series, I and others are aware that this series beats us over the head with it. Too much. The romance element also seems forced, but I was more bothered by the fact that in the second season instead of trying to imprison or kill the wolf goddess, people are trying to buy her away from our main protagonist. What the hell kind of romance is that?
Finally, there's Princess Tutu. It's been said that "real men watch Princess Tutu," just like "real men watch My Little Pony [Friendship is Magic.]" I am not a man, but I still couldn't get excited about the concept. Maybe if I was still a little girl and into ballet it would be a different story, but not now. I first found out about the series when I took an anime character personality quiz on Facebook and one of the characters that came with my result was the white-haired prince character. I had no idea who he was at the time, but I thought to myself, "Hey, maybe this is what Ryou Bakura would look like if he cut his hair!" But then I saw some reviews of it, and this guy's got nothin' on Ryou (and if Ryou did cut his hair he'd look more like Riku from KH3D). Although he is under a spell most of the time, his onscreen presence just lacks what attracted me to Ryou - like a brain!! I apologize if my perception of this character is all wrong, but what I have seen of him is not enough to entice me to like him or watch this series. For what it's worth, I also hated Black Swan.
