The rules for selecting these were set as follows. The manga had to be, in my opinion, better than the anime, at least in some respects (most importantly that the scene itself didn't appear in the anime or was done better in the manga). I didn't include any Digimon or Yu-Gi-Oh! because I like the animated versions better (in some cases the manga just wasn't that good with a few exceptions that didn't make it onto this list).
8. Hanajima as Cinderella (Fruits Basket). The anime never made it to this point but if it had, this would have been awesome. She is the exact opposite of what you'd imagine Cinderella to be (Tohru having been voted the "wicked" stepsister by bloc-voting mean girls) so the script for the play had to be re-written as "Sorta Cinderella."
7. The Amazon Quartet Scouts (Sailor Moon StarS). I've only got the last volume to draw from, but I've seen the picture of the Quartet Scouts with Mini Moon and Saturn online. I can only describe it as Sailor Moon GX, even though that's never going to happen. They didn't show up in the anime for StarS and didn't become Sailor Scouts at the end of SuperS (at least in the anime).
6. Nina's WTF face and Ayu's D'oh face (Ultra Maniac). I've only read volumes 1-3 and these expressions come up whenever crazy stuff happens (it happens a lot). These generalizations beat out a few better ones I can think of because I don't know where they were going with them (particularly who Nina should end up with and how she can only do magic well when she's drunk).
5. Yotsuba's googly eyes (Yotsuba&!). I like volumes 1-4 the best (even though they're the only ones I've read cover-to-cover so far) because they all take place during the summer that Yotsuba and her father move to town. Upon discovering things she likes or is thoroughly amazed by, she makes this face where her eyes get all wide and glossy. I crack up every time I see it.
4. Chibi Zakuro and Chibi Lettuce's fish bowl (Tokyo Mew Mew). At the end of certain volumes runs a short story called Petite Mew Mew in which the characters are toddlers at a day care. Zakuro usually travels around with Lettuce in her fish bowl on her head, which is adorable. Sometimes, though, she does things with the fish bowl (and to Lettuce) that are just hysterical, such as spinning it like a basketball and making Lettuce dizzy or turning it upside down like an aquarium and pouring sand on it, trapping Lettuce inside.
3. Zexion being nice to Roxas (Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days). In the game, Zexion isn't very nice to Roxas during their training mission but is more impatient and apathetic than mean (wonder where he got that from, Vexen). In the manga, however, he lives by the phrase "Greet people properly" and is kind to Roxas...by offering him a fish boxed lunch with chopsticks. The manga is very Japanese.
2. Touya and Yukito in the infirmary (Card Captor Sakura). This is the scene where Touya tells Yukito he knows he isn't human and that he's losing his life force to support Yueh, so he gives up his magical ability to keep both of them from dying so they can protect Sakura. All this time, Touya is being urged to return to gym class outside by Ruby Moon, and although Yukito tells him to go he suddenly reaches out and grabs him by his shirt so he doesn't leave.
1. Osaka carries the bar code (Azumanga Daioh). In the most epic breaking the fourth wall sketch in the manga, Osaka carries in her hands the book's bar code. This is the most hilarious thing I've ever seen. It's part of the series of sketches in which "You belong" is written next to the characters.
