Favorite Nostalgic Cereals
1. Count Chocula- this stuff is crack and now only comes around on Halloween with its buddies Boo Berry and Frankenberry.
2. Fruity Pebbles - because Fruit Brute/Yummy Mummy were discontinued before my time.
3. Tie between Captain Crunch (the special kind filled with fruit flavors called treasure chests that was only available for a limited time) and Berry Berry Kix.
4. Alphabits with Marshmallows - the vowels were marshmallows, including Y
5. Cinnamon Life - what, who says it had to contain sugar and stuff? Or Maple and Brown Sugar. That's my favorite flavor of oatmeal.
Honorable Mentions: Sprinkle Spangles "Cause we've spangled every angle with sprinkles!" and Oreo O's (the flavor of which can be recreated by Dounkin Donuts' Oreo Coolattas and donuts; I have not tried the coffee flavored donuts yet though).
Ben & Jerry have created some really unique flavors of ice cream, so rather than list the ordinary flavors that are my favorites, I will take a brief moment to talk about the kinds of combinations you can only get from them in a top 5 list.
5. Stephen Colbert's Americone Dream - It's not the celebrity endorsement that puts this variety on my list (though someone ought to look into getting Stewart and his "best f-ing news team" their own flavor because he seems really sad to be left out). While the ice cream itself is plain vanilla, it's like an ice cream cone and a sundae that collided, or a cone that was blended up and had toppings added to it. I'd make a reference to the Friendly's Cone Head Sundae, but Stephen's doesn't have M&Ms or Reese's Pieces in it, unfortunately.
Update: John Lennon's Imagine Whirled Peace is now tied for fifth with Stephen Colbert's Americone Dream (rethinks this and tosses Colbert's aside).
4. Strawberry Cheesecake - I like cheesecake, but I don't like putting fruit topping on it. This solves that problem with strawberry ice cream and graham cracker crumbs. Now I don't have to wait til Christmas when my mom makes cheesecake for her family reunion. Pumpkin Cheesecake is just as good when it's around.
3. Phish Phood - This was the first flavor of Ben & Jerry's I was introduced to, and I still think it's one of the best with its chocolate ice cream and marshmallow topping and fish-shaped pieces of chocolate. Chocolate Therapy is there for me when I'm depressed. It does its job well.
2. Triple Caramel Chunk - There are other variations of this like Caramel Sutra, but I like this one because it's like the holy trinity of caramel: caramel ice cream, caramel sauce, and caramel candy.
1. Peanut Brittle - Yeah I like peanut brittle, which is typically a candy that school children sell to the elderly for their holiday fundraiser. Actually, no, I haven't had it on its own, but I do enjoy it in this ice cream. I haven't tried Clusterfluff, but I'm too in love with this to try any other variation anytime soon.
Ordinary flavors I like are coffee, mint chocolate chip, green tea, and cotton candy. Okay, so the last two might not be that ordinary, but they're good wherever you can get them, usually in soft-serve form at the mall.
